This week on VSRF Live, we confront one of the most urgent issues of our time: mental health, suicide, and a treatment model that too often medicalizes distress — and can make it dangerously difficult to exit.
Joining us:
Kim Witczak – international drug safety advocate and founder of WoodyMatters, whose husband Woody died by suicide shortly after being prescribed an antidepressant. Since then, Kim has served on FDA advisory committees and become a leading voice demanding transparency and accountability around psychiatric drug risks.
Dr. Roger McFillin, Psy.D. – clinical psychologist and host of the top-ranked Radically Genuine Podcast. Known for his unfiltered critique of modern psychiatry, he challenges over-medicalization, diagnostic labeling, and the assumption that healing requires lifelong medication.
Danielle Gansky – psychiatric drug harm advocate whose platforms reach more than 450,000 people. Placed on psychiatric medications at just seven years old, Danielle entered years of polypharmacy. Two doctor-directed tapers — along with an adverse reaction to an antipsychotic — left her severely injured. She is still healing today while working to safely taper and advocating for reforms to prevent similar harm to others. Her mother, Nancy Gansky, also joins to share their story.
Together, we examine:
• Antidepressants and suicide risk
• The impact of medicating children
• Withdrawal, tapering, and informed consent
• Regulatory oversight of psychiatric drugs
• The commodification of mental health
• What real resilience and recovery truly require
Is the current system helping those in despair — or trapping some in cycles of diagnosis, medication, and harm?
This conversation is not about stigma. It’s about evidence. It’s about informed consent. And it’s about reform.
Join us for a candid discussion about grief, accountability, and what it truly means to protect mental health in challenging times.
